Cosmetic dermatology refers to modification of skin structure to enhance appearance in the absence of disease. Examples would include: facial lines and wrinkles, blood vessels and spider veins, natural hair thinning, safe moles and other brown spots, and thin lips. These conditions can be effectively managed by treatment options ranging from fillers, to Botulinum toxin injections, and lasers. Such treatments would not be considered medically necessary and would not be covered by OHIP. Medical Dermatology Medical dermatology refers to the diagnosis and management of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. Traditionally, this has referred to conditions such as acne, rosacea, hair loss, warts, eczema, psoriasis, other rashes, skin cancers, as well as other more uncommon conditions.
