Where does the name LiL Funky originate from? Well, let's backspin the record for a second here. The name LiL Funky comes from his father Joe, a legendary disc jockey who began his DJ career in the late seventies, was branded as Funky Joe; back when funk music was at the height of the music scene. It wasn't difficult for Joe Jr. to acquire the name LiL Funky from his friends, knowing the history of his father in the entertainment business.
LiL Funky was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised in a DJ environment. He commenced his DJ career at an early age. His perpetual interest in the art of the DJ inspired him to attain to a greater knowledge. Completely obsessed with the art of mixing LiL Funky would observe his father playing, listen to mix tapes and live radio mix shows. On his 12th birthday he received his first pair of Technics 1200 turntables and since then has taken a keen interest on becoming an unprecedented entertainer.
He spends countless hours digging through his old man's record crates, shopping for rare records, downloading exclusive remixes and digitally editing his own mixes. Throughout the years LiL Funky has integrated all genres of music into his performances.
LiL Funky received his first on-air radio show with DJ Joey D live on Power 88.5 FM in 1999. The show was a three-hour non-stop mix program called Club 885. He later connected with Toronto's top-40 radio station Z103.5 FM as a DJ / Producer in 2001. His weekly radio mix show (The Midday Mix-down) and various night club live to air gigs allowed his distinguished sound to reach a wide audience.
Since then this Toronto based talent has played in venues across Canada and has recently expanded into Mexico and the United States; with performances in Acapulco, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Buffalo and Miami with many more cities to follow. You can find him getting funky throughout North America in various night clubs, beach parties, upscale weddings & private functions.
