A Welcome Oasis: Aiyara is located in a plain looking mini-mall just across from the Herongate Shopping Mall in the south end of Ottawa. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but the interior of Aiyara is a welcome oasis from inner city life. Special touches include sweet smelling tea poured from an elephant teapot into tiny elephant-shaped cups. Aiyara means “elephant” in Thai and that means every diner is in luck at this sister-owned and operated restaurant. What’s On The Menu: Lunch specials from Monday to Friday include a selection of beef, chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes along with rice. The full dinner menu is also available at lunch and you will find the house specialties listed at the front of the menu. They include Aiyara fish, pan-fried marinated salmon served with spicy green mango sauce; Ped Orb Phu Khao Fai, crispy marinated duck with mixed vegetables and a special chef’s sauce; and Moo Tra Krai, grilled pork with lemongrass and Thai herbs.
